Painted Clay on Wood

Lost in Translation is a triptych art piece exploring the emotional and cognitive breakdowns that occur in communication between individuals. The series presents three abstract clay compositions:

Left Panel: The Giver — shaped and painted with a specific visual language representing their internal world. The one speaking.

Right Panel: The Receiver - A second individual — expressed through a different texture, palette, and emotional tone.

Center Panel: The Grey - the space in between — the distorted or unclear transmission of meaning.

While each outer panel embodies a distinct character or emotional reality, the center reveals the grey ambiguity where intention and reception fracture. What begins as expression becomes something altogether different by the time it is received. In this middle ground, language fails — not from malice, but from the inherent limitations of interpretation.

The series asks a quietly devastating question:
If every communication is a distortion, how much of your perceived reality is simply a story you’ve told yourself?
